MAS - Researching and Teaching Drawing and Painting

Maryhill Art School

MAS is a Glasgow-based art school formed in 2009 by three artists who are passionate about and committed to the teaching of life drawing and painting.

Fundamental to MAS is the artists' enthusiasm formed individually through collaborative research and wide-ranging practice.  Our philosophy as tutors is to share elementary skills and procedures through to complex techniques in the studio.

Throughout history, figurative art has developed people's understanding of humanity and life, and provides an endless source of fascination that continues to be reinvented.  From this perspective it is MAS's intention to enable students 'see' and deepen their gaze through drawing and painting.

MAS is concerned with holding the intuitive and analytical approaches to teaching in balance, encouraging students to grow, strengthening their vision to gain a positive sense of what it means to be an artist.

As of December 2011 we have stopped offering classes due to reasons shown in the homepage.
We are still looking for a way to come back to our community with a new set of classes and longer term programs of study. To that end we are in discussions with several people about,
1. Backing.
2. Studio space.

We are also discussing amongst ourselves the possible structure of phase 2 MAS.

We will keep you informed as to any developments.
